The COVID-19 pandemic has created significant societal and economic disruption, and resulted in closures of stores, factories and offices, and restrictions on manufacturing, distribution and travel, all of which have and will continue to adversely impact our business, results of operations, cash flows and financial position while the pandemic continues. Our business continuity plans and other safeguards in place may not be effective to mitigate the impact of the pandemic. Currently, significant risks include our diminished ability to convert adult smokers to our RRPs, significant volume declines in our duty-free business and certain other key markets, disruptions or delays in our manufacturing and supply chain, increased currency volatility, and delays in certain cost saving, transformation and restructuring initiatives. Our business could also be adversely impacted if key personnel or a significant number of employees or business partners become unavailable due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The significant adverse impact of COVID-19 on the economic or political conditions in markets in which we operate could result in changes to the preferences of our adult consumers and lower demand for our products, particularly for our mid-price or premium-price brands. Continuation of the pandemic could disrupt our access to the credit markets or increase our borrowing costs. Governments may temporarily be unable to focus on the development of science-based regulatory frameworks for the development and commercialization of RRPs or on the enforcement or implementation of regulations that are significant to our business. In addition, messaging about the potential negative impacts of the use of our products on COVID-19 risks may lead to increasingly restrictive regulatory measures on the sale and use of our products, negatively impact demand for our products and the willingness of adult consumers to switch to our RRPs, and adversely impact our efforts to advocate for the development of science-based regulatory frameworks for the development and commercialization of RRPs.
The change would save a student loan borrower earning $50,000 about $2,200 for every $10,000 of forgiven student loans, according to a press release from Sen. In addition to a one-time debt cancellation, the change also applies to any borrower who qualifies for forgiveness via an income-driven repayment plan before the end of 2025.
The tax-free status in the stimulus plan covers all types of forgiveness for all types of loans, including private ones. But it's temporary, applying to debt cancellations from Jan. 1, 2021 through the end of 2025.
In theory, borrowers who get forgiveness through income-driven repayment could benefit from this temporary tax-free clause. But it ends in 2025, whereas large number of borrowers won't hit their window for forgiveness via income-driven repayment until 2030 or later.

Starting in 2025, all egg-laying hens in Michigan will be cage-free, the result of legislation signed into law late last year after negotiations among lawmakers, industry leaders and animal-rights groups.
Extensive research has shown that there are positive and negative impacts and trade-offs associated with different hen housing systems. Meanwhile, consumer demand for eggs produced from enhanced-cage or cage-free hens has not materialized to support the higher cost for farmers. (For most producers, moving to cage-free operations requires the construction of new facilities.)
Nationwide, about 18 percent of all laying hens were in cage-free production in 2019; however, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data on egg sales, only 16 percent of eggs marketed are sold as cage-free. If all of the companies make good on their current commitments, 71 percent of all hens will need to be cage free in five years.

The Oslo Action Plan therefore contains several concrete actions States will take in order to ensure that people who have been injured by mines have access to healthcare and other services they need to be able to live independently and in dignity.
We all know that resources are key to reaching our shared goal of a mine-free world. Through 20 years of implementation, we also know that strong national leadership, evidence-based plans and dialogue between all relevant stakeholders in a mine-affected country are key ingredients to success in mine action. The Oslo Action Plan encourages the use of all these ingredients and States Parties will also explore new and innovative sources of financing. With only six years remaining before their aspirational 2025 deadline, these actions will be of great importance.

To meet those goals, industry will need 224 million hens laying eggs in cage-free systems by 2026, which compares to the current number of 80 million, Gates said. If the industry continues at its normal rate of replacing conventional housing of hens with cage-free housing, about 140 million cage-free hens will be available by 2026, he said.
With deadlines in question, restaurant chains, retail grocers and food manufacturers could take several routes, Gates said. They could invest and provide capital to assist in the production of cage-free systems. They could reverse their pledges and stay with conventional systems, or they could slow down the conversion to 100% cage-free eggs.
United Egg Producers, Johns Creek, Ga., a cooperative of US egg farmers, defines cage-free eggs as those laid by hens that are able to roam vertically and horizontally in indoor houses and that have access to fresh food and water. The hens must be allowed to exhibit natural behaviors and have environments such as scratch areas, perches and nests.
Creating a cage-free system involves obtaining permits, which may take three months to three years; constructing the facility, which may take five or six months after contracts are issued; and setting up a supply chain for birds and feed. Chicks need to be ordered one year in advance.
Labor costs for cage-free operations are about three times higher than conventional operations, he added. Yet no guarantee exists that cage-free eggs will receive enough of a higher price than conventional eggs for farmers to make a profit. Cage-free eggs tend to be smaller, which limits their ability to receive a premium price, Gates said.
